Two fascinating aspects about the P&S was the number of tunnels and trestles along the line. Typically trestles were referred to as viaducts.

We’re talking about the larger ones, there were also dozens of small bridges over creeks, roads, etc..

TUNNELS – There were five tunnels along the P&S,

they are listed below from north to south.

Knoxdale (west of Knoxdale) – 812 feet – Mile 28

Coulter (south of Coolspring) – 2025 feet – Mile 36

Mauk (south of Sprankle Mills) – 1980 feet – Mile 39

Mack (south of Distant) – 848 feet – Mile 57

Mahoning (north of Templeton) – 1014 feet – Mile 61

Little Mill creek (north of Brookville) – 756 feet – Mile 18

Brookvile (south of Brookville Yard) – 785 feet –

Mile 21, This one is curved, crosses Lincoln St, crosses the Low Grade, then Redbank Creek.

East Branch (south of Knoxdale) – 1478 feet – Mile 35

Sprankle (Sprankle Mills) – 1430 feet – Mile 38

Mudlick (Putneyville) 630 feet – Mile 51

Sugar Camp (Putneyville) – 660 feet – Mile 52

Mahoning Creek (Colwell) – 508 feet – Mile 55
