In starting the P&S site over awhile back until now I’d let off a section about the P&S cabooses. The Pittsburg & Shawmut continued to use cabooses long after many other railroads discontinued their use.

May as well start off with a couple unusual “caboose” shots. David Baer sent this one of a Brookville local at Rayard with Caboose 195. The diesel fuel tank car was filled at BV and kept at KG to fuel the locomotives.

Here at Brookville three of the cabooses are being shuffled around.

Bob Chesarek sent us this look of the 191 at Brookville. In the later years of the “Shawmut Line” era the 191 was the only caboose to sport one of the red and white Shawmut Line logos. The logo was patterned after the P.S.&N. green and yellow bar-diamond logo.

Interestingly enough, the 191 sported the diamond-arrow logo in earlier years as did some of the other cabooses.
Also in earlier years caboose 195 sported the diamond-arrow logo on the right as well as an American Flag on the upper left!
Of course the 196 was the most unique of the cabooses used in the later years following the Bicentennial theme like the SW9’s.
During the later years of the P&S cabooses 191, 195, 196 & 197 were used most.

Bob Chesarek also sent us a look at the 194 at “BV” one of the earlier cars.
